As promised I have the first week of RM#2 edition – Condiments coming to close today. To breifly summarize the weeks recipes, here’s the list for quick re-cap.
RM#2 Day 1 – Paruppu Podi – Lentil Powder
I started off the edition with my all time fav staple in my kitchen – Lentil powder made with Pigeon peas and whole black peppers, dry roasted and ground to make a peppery and throat friendly condiment. Healthy and Yummy for spice lovers.
RM#2 Day 2 with Coconut Chutney
Survival of a true blue South Indian without this condiment would be almost unheard of. Its like “bread and butter”
and I shared my oft made version on day 2
RM#2 – Day 3 with Garam Masala
Its a rare kitchen which would not have this powder in its pantry. Next time you forget to get some from your local Indian store, dont worry. Make this one in matter of seconds and what more, make it a meal worth remembering for a long time to come.
RM#2 Day 4 – Tomato Chutney
Fiery Red and Spicy Chutney made of luscious ripe Tomatoes and Pearl onions have always been my favorite and I am sure they will be yours too.
RM#2 Day 5 with Curry Leaves Powder
After the lentil powder, this is another must have mix I prefer to have in my dining table. Nicely roasted curry leaves ground with lentils is not only refreshing to look at but is also good for the health.
RM#2 Day 6 with Onion Chutney
Next to Coconut and Tomato chutney, the next best thing in the list is the Onion chutney. These three form the three musketeers of South Indian condiment accompaniment to Dosa and Idli. This chutney is a family tradition passed on by my mom to me made with roasted onions and black pepper and chilli. This goes so well with Idli that you would not think of Idli again without it.
RM# 2 Day 7 with Sambar Podi/Powder
What can I say about this powder that could do it any justice. Among the 100 fav foods that one must try before they die, I would surely place Sambar – a south Indian speciality and to make it you need this powder which makes it much more easier and simpler. If you thought it was cumbersome to make some on your own at home – think again!
With Sambar ahead, could Rasam be left far behind? This forms as a second course in a typical South Indian meal and that offers the aroma and warmness throughout one’s being. This Rasam powder plays a huge role in make your Rasam a soul food.
Dont forget to check out the coming week – Its going to be Indian Flat Breads
Keep checking

this is awesome Dhivs.. so methodical and proper way for a theme-based RM. wish I was like you. With my huffing and puffing from work to home & vice-versa, its not possible for me to do this way.. so I decide upon a dish every evening – sumthing simple yet different which I haven't tried & blog about it…:D

Siri
