Recently, when my best friend Siri, recounted her visit to Vaidehi Ashram, I shamelessly spent 20 minutes crying. The stories of how some of the little kids got to the ashram nearly choked me and induced a pain in my heart. Being a mother myself, I could not help seeing my little one in each one of those kids. For the first time, my so called worries about the “many things I did not get”, ceased to matter.

See the picture above? The little one sitting in the beginning – she is almost a baby. It hurts me to no end to realize she doesn’t even know what it is to be loved, scolded, pampered by a mother. What the heck? She doesn’t even know what a Mother is. My little one always runs after me asking for food (cos he associates me with food!!), looks with his “Oh-I-am-so-sad” kinda eyes to pick him up.
To think that little girl, sitting right there, doesn’t know to do that, causes extreme grief to my heart. Its even more disturbing that she has to thank people like you and me, on a day to day basis, for that plate of food. But she does. Just like the rest of the kids who sing their gratitude for the morsel they enjoyed that day. While my little one goes around, scattering food all around the house, these little ones devour every single bit of theirs with a grateful heart.
I write this post today with tears running uncontrollably down my face. NO KID DESERVES TO BE HUNGRY. They did not ask to be born yet they have been abandoned by the very people they would have called their own, no matter what. They don’t know the meaning of family. They don’t know to take anything for granted. They don’t know the love that only a Mother can give.
I wonder how God had the heart to do this to them. But then, like my husband said, “he did it cos he knew there were people like you to feel for them the way he feels.” I know you feel the same way I do. Take a minute and make a difference to their lives. It might be very little for you but it would mean the world to them cos YOU are their world today.

Thanks a lot for sharing such information with us. As with others my heart melts for these kids. Since you have already given the direct contact information, I would take that approach. Shared it in FB.
