Pappu billalu is rice crispy snack usually made during festivals and mostly during marriage times.. I have seen many different style recipes for this pappu chekkalu but this one is very old traditional recipe which my grand-mother used to make, I got this recipe from my mother. Taste yummy with tea/coffee.

  • Prep time:
Ingredients
  • Rice flour 4 cups
  • Roasted dalia powder(pappula poddi) 1/2 cup
  • Sesame seeds raw 1/2 tbsp
  • Roasted Peanuts 2 tbsp
  • Roasted dalia 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves 4 stems
  • Salt approx 1 teaspoon
  • water for making dough
  • Chili Powder approx 1 teaspoon
  • Oil for deep frying
Method
1.

Take Rice flour, dalia powder, Sesame seeds, salt and chilli powder in a bowl and mix it.

2.

Grind the Roasted Peanuts into coarse and add it along with dalia and also finely chopped curry leaves to the above mix and mix everything evenly. Also add 1 Table spoon of hot oil to the mix and mix everything and then add sufficient water to make it dough like chapathi.

3.

Heat the oil in deep skillet for deep frying. When oil is hot reduce the flame to medium. Meanwhile take small lemon size ball of dough and flatten it and put it in oil and fry it until it is golden brown. Then transfer it on tissue paper so it absorbs extra oil. You can deep fry in batch of 5- 6 chekkalu at a time.Once done and chekkalu cools down can be stored in air tight container.
