Dal Banjara , as the name suggest is a madly of lots of greens n lentils and also one secret ingredient plum.Really when tangyness of plum pungency of greens and sweetness of lentils are mixed it tastes HEAVENLY:)

Ingredients
  • For the Dal:
  • 100 gram split red gram
  • 30 gram split red lentil
  • 20 gram split bengal gram
  • 50 gram spinach (chopped)
  • 50 gram spring onion greens (chopped)
  • 25 gram fresh fenugreek leaves (chopped)
  • 25 gram fresh coriander (chopped)
  • 2-3 green chillies (chopped) / as per taste
  • 4-6 curry leaves (chopped)
  • 2 small spring onions (chopped)
  • 1 small tomato (chopped)
  • 2 plums (cored and pureed)
  • 1 table spoon red chilli powder
  • 1 tea spoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 tea spoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tea spoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 tea spoon crushed pepper
  • 1 tea spoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tea spoon sugar
  • For Tempering:
  • 2 table spoon oil
  • 1/2 tea spoon fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tea spoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tea spoon mustard seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • For Garnish:
  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
  • Few pieces of plum (chopped)
  • 1 table spoon fresh cream
  • Salt as per taste
Method
1.

Wash and soak all lentils in a cooker for 2 hours.Add salt and turmeric power and have 4 whistle.Cool and blend lightly and keep aside.

wash all greens and keep aside.In a deep wok heat oil and add tempering, when it splutter add green chillies,curry leaves,chopped onions and tomatoes,spat for 2 minutes and add greens.Spat for 5 minutes and add all dry spices ,sugar and salt.

Spat till oil removes, add pureed plums and lemon juice.Put off the gas.Transfer to a Handi.Garnish with coriander leaves,cream and plum.Serve hot with any bread: chapatti , nan ,rumali roti kulcha or plain steam rice...:)

actually i had left with different types of greens in small quantity and wanted to use all in one single dish.and also wanted to make a side dish which,meet my requirement for proteins,vitamins and minerals,in one go!!hence this dish was created.i named it banjara as like banjara tribal i mixed and match everything and created something new:)
