We Indians are gr8 lovers of dal,which is consumed all over the country,in different forms,taste and texture.I tried usual Toor dal with fresh fruit,taste little bit similar to regular Gujarati Dal,Texture similar to the South Indian Rasam,Garnish like North Indian Dal Makkhani,unite the whole Nation in one yummy bowl of HEALTH:)

  • Yields: serves 2-3 person
Ingredients
  • 1 cup split pigeon pea (boiled)
  • 1/2 cup watermelon juice (strained)
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree (blanched n peeled)
  • 1 table spoon tamarind pulp
  • 1 tea spoon red chilli paste / as per taste
  • 2 tea spoon sambhar masala / as per taste
  • 1/2 tea spoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1 tea spoon oil
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Salt to taste
  • For Garnish:
  • Butter
  • Fresh coriander
Method
1.

Heat oil in a pan, add cinnamon stick ,tomato puree ,chilli paste,cumin powder and stir for 2-3 minutes.Add boiled pulse and bring to boil and add sambhar masala

pour in the watermelon juice, tamarind pulp and salt.Again simmer for 2-3 minutes,garnish with butter and fresh coriander.

Serve Dal Melony with steamed rice / chapatti or drink as a SOUP:)
Notes:
Make sure watermelon is not extremely sweet.

actually i have some watermelon juice handy no one wants to have it,added to my dal,it tastes yummy,so next day i again made it properly with watermelon juice and loved by all,so tempted to share with all my foodie friends.actually the freshness of watermelon goes well with the bland flavour of dal:)
