Gulab jamun is a traditional sweet but I tried it with left over idlis and orange flavor.......hope you guys will like it...:)
For Chashni:In a heavy bottom pan, put together sugar and water, bring to a boil on high heat. Once it starts boiling, switch to medium heat and let simmer until the syrup thickens – about 15 minutes. At this point do a consistency check -What you want is a single thin string consistency .To achieve this, keep boiling the syrup until a drop of syrup leaves one string between your thumb and finger.Put off the gas and add orange emulsion.
For Gulab Jamun:Mix all ingredients of gulab jamun and mix well with your palm.Knead this to make a fine dough. Shape this into lemon size balls.
Heat oil /ghee in a kadai and fry these kneaded balls at low flame till golden brown.Put these fried balls in the sugar syrup and Bring it to a boil for a min.
When it begins to boil, turn off the flame and serve Hot with Vanilla or Butterscotch ice cream.....:)
NOTE:IF mawa and milk powder is not handy one can replace both ingredients with Instant Gulabjamun mix,and then it can be consumed by my VEGAN friends too...
NOTE: vegan and health conscious people can fry this jamuns in oil but it tastes more yummy when fried in ghee.
NOTE: Hariyali mawa is a mawa made from cows milk and also known as gulab jamun mawa in India, but you can use any mawa.
NOTE: If you don"t have orange emulsion, you can use orange food color and orange essence instead of it.
NOTE:You can replace orange flavor with Chickoo (sapota) or Pineapple flavor too, they also tastes nice.
