Some dishes are so easy peasy to make, to eat, for both their nutritional value as well for their taste. I have heard from so many friends of mine, who have this standard complaint – their kids don’t eat this, don’t eat that, they are not getting enough nutrition blah blah blah and more blah. One point few of them forget is that nutrition per se is not only in dishes that they have classified “as healthy” but also in many others and if cooked right, they provide value to one’s health. Its all about correct mix and match – and I don’t mean adding heapful of butter in some vegetable dish to make them eat veggies. Its about trying to add a combination of ingredients which would make them ‘want’ to eat the same.
I have this friend of mine who wanted her son to eat more legumes and who had issues with chickpeas(!), kidney beans etc(!!!) and that all he ends up eating is potato curry this, potato curry that! I told her why not add chickpeas to potatoes and she said she tried that too but he wont and he is going to miss out on protein. She challenged me to make him eat legumes and which I took up with this “Pavta Batata”. Lima beans are immensely protein rich, v beneficial to ppl suffering from Diabetes, cholesterol and is a Fiber King. I won the challenge hands down and her son finished off an entire bowl of ‘yellow sabzi’all by himself! Well the credit goes entirely to this Maharashtrian dish
which makes everything simple. It is one dish to make staple in your kitchen.
Method
1. In a non stick pan, heat 1/2 tsp oil, add the mustard seeds. When they start popping add the onion and asafoetida.

2.Once the onions are soft, add the spices, potato and salt. Add little water, cover the pan and let it cook until potatoes are soft.

3.Gently add in the cooked beans along with coconut and cilnatro.
Serve hot. Thats it – couldnt be more simple or healthier

Hi D & K, Assuming this post is by D

I also use lima beans a lot DK. I generally use the frozen green ones. Have not tried the dried ones so far. This one looks like a good combination too. Do you by any chance know the english name for Mochai paruppu? I googled and couldn’t find it.
this looks good and is healthy too, will be trying it out soon!
The dish looks lovely…A very healthy one too. I agree with you that its the way in which we make healthy dishes, I learnt this from cooking for husband who is a fussy eater, now he’s eating all veggies, it the way we make it
