Tandoori Paneer Kebabs

Luscious food, mashed and mixed with a aromatic blend of spices and other ingredients, hooked on to a skewer and grilled is not only rewarding to the taste buds but also to the sight and smell! Kebabs have been around for so long and bespeaks of Middle Eastern culture but now which has been adopted by so many of us all around the world. While one may think of meat while talking about Kebabs, I say why deprive the vegetarians of the delicacy ;-) We want to grill and broil some vegetables on a skewer too!

Though I have tried multiple variations of ingredients to replace the meat in a kebab dish, Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) is among the simplest and basic of them all. Cooking in Tandoor is an Indian classic, but in the absence of the clay oven, a Tandoori Masala does help to bring out the essence of it. Hence Tandoori Paneer Kebabs it is for me :)

  • Cook time:
  • Prep time:
  • Serves: 4 people
Ingredients
  • Approx 2 cups Paneer, cubed
  • 1 red onion, sliced into squares
  • 1 capsicum ( any color)sliced into squares
  • 2 tomatoes, pulp removed and chopped into squares
  • For the Marinade
  • 1/2 cup fresh curds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp Tandoori Masala
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp Kasuri methi
  • 1 tsp ajwain
  • black salt to taste ( regular salt will do too)
Method
1. Prepare the marinade by mixing all the ingredients together.
2. Add the chopped vegetables along with Paneer and mix well until coated.
3. Wrap it in plastic and refrigerate for at least 2 hrs.
4. In a metal skewer, start threading the vegetables alternating them with 2-3 cubes of paneer. Plce them on a greased griddle
5. and cook till the side has browned.
6. Turn and repeat the same on all the corners. Alternatively you can also broil them, by placing the skewers in a cookie sheet pan, and broil them at every side until charred/browned.

I am going to do the tandoori kebabs with the urid dahl dish with the green mexican rice. I notice my name is posted and website but not my message. Hope you pick this up. Yours is the best blog I've come across. Have tested out the black gram dahl and Mexican green spinach rice, it was delicious and will be serving with this menu for my friends for sure this weekend.

Hi, I follow your site and love the way you express yourself - with the photos and all the cooking process seems like a breeze. :-D I had a question, what is Tandoori masala, what I find outside is Tandoori Chicken masala? Thanks, Manasa

I used the store bought variety only but it was not the chicken variety.
