Dal Tadka is a staple dish in several Indian households and is generally eaten with rice or rotis...:)))))))))

Ingredients
  • For Dal:
  • 1/2 cup split yellow gram
  • 1/4 cup split pigeon pea
  • 1 tablespoon split bengal gram
  • 1 teaspoon split red lentil
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 2 cup water
  • For Tempering:
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon fenugreek seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon of asafoetida
  • 4 cloves garlic (grated)
  • 1 inch ginger (grated)
  • 1-2 green chillies (finely chopped)or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dry coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon dry mango powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander chopped
  • For Garnish:
  • fresh coriander
  • butter (optional)(VEGANS can avoid it)
Method
1.

For Dal: thoroughly wash and soak all lentils in 2 cups water,for 1 hrs.add to pressure cooker along with salt and turmeric powder and take 4 whistles,cool and blend it little bit.

2.

For Tempering: In a deep pan ,heat oil and add ingredients from 11-22,and swat till tomatoes become little soft,now add ingredients from 23-17,swat till oil release.

3.

Now add water,fresh coriander and mix well,garnish with fresh coriander and dollops of butter.Serve hot with rice,roti or any flat bread.....:)))))))))))
