Upma ,a South Indian dish,instant,healthy n easy 2 make dish,can be served in any meal course,can be made with lots of variation ...one of my all time fav dish.I had given little bit twist in serving too along with preparation..:)))))))

  • Yields: serves 2 person
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon split black gram (without skin)
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon red chilli paste or to taste
  • 1/2 cup semolina
  • 1/2 cup rolling oats
  • 1/2 cup beet pulp (blanched and pureed)
  • 1 cup tender coconut water
  • 1 cup plain water
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind pulp
  • salt to taste
  • For Serving:
  • old style majito glass
  • dry red chilli
  • lemon juice
  • red chilli flakes
  • fresh coriander
  • diet chivda or any namkin or farsan
  • Salad (finely chopped shallots,tomatoes,salt,pepper,lemon juice n pinch of sugar;mix all)

In a pan heat oil,add mustard seeds,when it crackle,add black gram n curry leaves n roast for some time,now add red chilli paste and swat n add semolina and oats,and roast till light golden or aroma arise.


Now add coconut water and plain water,salt and tamarind pulp and constantly stir,till mixture leaves the pan.


Apply lemon juice to the rim of the glass,coat with chopped coriander leaves.


Now spoon salad to this glass,then spoon upma,repeat the layer,sprinkle diet chivda and red chilli flakes over it,place one dry red chilli on top to show the heat..serve HOT.....!!!!


NOTE :While making for kids,avoid red chilli paste and add little bit of cumin powder and chat masala to the upma.
