How to Make Paneer Bhurji
The protein sources for vegetarians are not that myriad. And especially for Indians, they are few. Among them one is Paneer. If you work out regularly, then Paneer (Indian farmer's cheese) can be consumed on a daily basis. We love Paneer, I mean whats not to like? I recently checked my recipe diary (where I note down all my tried and tested recipes) and on my last count, I have 52 different recipes with them!! They are so immensely versatile and I use them in so many ways.
How to Make Paneer Bhurji
One of the most well known version of preparing Paneer is Paneer Bhurji. Bhurji is similar to scrambling only its not egg but crumbled paneer. Paneer Bhurji Its not only immensely delicious and hearty, its so easy and quick that one minute you put them all together, another minute the dish is almost done!! Its my go to dish when I am short on time, energy or inspiration. This recipe is very similar to Tofu Bhurji - a more healthier version than this and more nutritious.

  • Serves: 2 people
  • Approx. 3 cups crumbled Paneer
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 each of medium red,yellow and green bell peppers (or use any color you happen to have)
  • 2-3 ripe tomatoes,chopped (or use tomato puree)
  • 2-3 green chillies to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp coriander-cumin powder
  • salt to taste
  • few sprigs of cilantro, curry leaves for garnish
1. In a skillet in 1 tsp oil, saute the seeds and spices until aromatic. Add the onions and rest of the ingredients - sprinkle salt, close the lid and cook until soft. It takes about 5-6 min.
2. Next add the crumbled paneer and cook for another 5 minutes for the paneer to soak up the flavors.
Garnish with cilantro and curry leaves and serve warm. I love it with phulkas/roti's. You can enjoy it with Indian flatbreads of your choice How to Make Paneer Bhurji

i tried paneer bhurji yest and it turned out really nice but i still wanted to know what if i dont eat there a substitute such that i dont have to compromise on the taste....anyways this was a real saver quick and easy...i think anyone like me working and managing home needs to try such stuff...thanks a tonne Hi Parinda, thank you for your sweet comment. Great looking paneer Bhurji. The last pic says it all. I make them with Tofu. Paneer tastes better but I have to opt for Tofu for a healthier version.

Oh I saw your pics of paneer bhurji and had to try it out. it came out so yummy. I just had one question. I get the frozen block of paneer and was wondering how to just cut a piece of it. I microwaved the entire thing and then cut it when it was softer. I guess there must be an easier way so was wondering.

Hi! Nice post. I also add capsicum to my bhurji sometimes but then I add them just at the last. I love the light crunch of the capsicum.

Can't agree with you more upon this, this is my saving grace everytime i am short of time, or need any quickfix but healthy dish, or for some unexpected guests,or even to expand the menu for guests with some quick side dish...this serves the purpose everytime. But i do not make it this dry,its more like a korma,sans bellpeppers(they overpower the taste of paneer,so i generally do not add these)and yeah some magic masalas like a bit of kitchen king and a dash of kasuri methi and the flavor changes by leaps and bounds.When making for guests, i do add half a cup of milk/or some butter/or cashew paste and it turns so rich in taste, almost restaurant style ;-) Sorry for hogging the space, i didnt meant sharing the whole recipe here, but at times it hard to control the urge to pour out ;-) And did i mentioned this looks lovely..i also loved that roti box(if i can call it so) pretty..... much better looking than my stainless steel one Hogging the comment space is a trend I encourage at chef in you :) Never used all those masalas yet - will do that next time :) That roti box is thanks to the Mexicans - they store their tortillas in there and its great for keeping roti's warm!! :)

I don't bring home paneer because I love it more than I should and S doesn't even look it because he's very conscious about his diet. I wish I was like him and I would be (at least) 30 pounds lighter.
