Misal is a nutritious Maharashtrian Dish. It is a spicy curry made with sprouted pulses and served topped with sweet and spicy chutney and spicy chivda. This spicy curry served with bread is called Pav. Traditionally usal is made with sprouted math beans, but I make it with a varietly of pulses....:)
Soak all the above pulses in 4 cups of water overnight.Drain and spread the pulses on a wet cotton cloth.Loosley wrap the cloth around them and store it for 12-24 hours, depending on the size of the sprouts you want.(If the cloth seems to dry out, spray some water)Then blanch them in salty water, keep aside.
In a pan dry roast all ingredients and cool and coarsely grind it,keep aside.
In a pan heat oil and add all ingredients except water, one by one and swat in between.Add masala powder and swat for a min or till aroma arise, add water and bring to boil.(this gravy must belittle bit thin )
In a bowl add some dry potato bhaji.
Over it add some blanched sprouts.
Over this pour some curry.
Over this spoon little bit both chutneys as per your liking.
Over this sprinkle chopped tomatoes.
Over this sprinkle some chopped onions.
Over this sprinkle coriander leaves.
Over this sprinkle lots of spicy chivda.
Serve with Pav,Without roasting.....YUM.:)
NOTE:If wish one can add yogurt too on it.
NOTE:Traditionally this dish is very spicy likeall Maharashtrian dish, but adjust heat acc to your choice.
NOTE:This dish is protein, mineral & vitamins rich,so do make for children but avoid chillies then just add chat masala and cumin powder for taste.
